LEHSSchool is back in session for Little Elm schools. With a new school year comes a new awareness for safety precautions for parents and Little Elm residents.

School Zones: When driving in a school zone during school hours, make sure to drive the state-mandated speed limit and stay off mobile devices. Besides keeping students safe by adhering to this law, you will keep yourself from getting a ticket or a fine. It’s also important to watch for students and cross guards, especially near elementary schools. While the cross guards do their best to protect children when crossing the street, there are rare instances when they run out or cross without looking, so it’s important to be especially careful and alert.

Health: Schools are one of the easiest places to spread germs and illnesses. It’s imperative to teach your kids the importance of washing their hands, not sharing food or drinks with friends and practicing healthy habits like covering their mouths when they cough or using a tissue when they sneeze. This will prevent the spread of some bacteria and germs that cause illnesses and make them miss school. With the added threat of West Nile, it’s also important for your kids to use some kind of bug spray daily if they plan on going outside. For more information on the West Nile virus, you can visit www.littleelm.org/westnile.

Bullying: Bullying is a growing issue in schools. In order to keep your child from being a bully or becoming bullied, it’s important to have open, honest conversations with them about it. If you fear they are being bullied at school, you can let school officials know about the problem. Little Elm is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable environment for students to grow and learn in.
